Educational Interpreter Salary Schedule
Salary - $23,651
Benefits - Schedule B / Non-Exempt Employee
Skillfully interpret voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice comfortably within the classroom setting as well as in the community. Support deaf and hearing disabled students within the general classroom and in the self-contained classroom environment. Work directly and positively with hearing disabled students who are of a variety of ages and skill levels. Assist the classroom teacher in instructing students in sign language. Communicate and teach students the rules of etiquette and humor of deaf people. Interpret and follow instructions from teachers and the building administrator. Follow the Code of Ethics for interpreters of the Deaf. Be available to interpret for parents and adults in both school and community settings. Maintain flexible hours to meet the needs of students / parents. Support the instructional process in the classroom as part of the team. Work tactfully with students, parents, and other staff. Perform any and all other responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor.
You must submit a Current Resume, Transcripts and State Interpreting Certificate with your application
- AA Degree or two years of college preparations or training in Educational Interpretation (Please upload copy of unofficial transcript, not a copy of your degree)
- Nationally certified and/or State certified in interpreting for the hearing impaired student (Upload a copy of your certification)
- Minimum of three years successful experience interpreting for deaf students
TEE (Temporary Educator Eligibility) and TEI (Temporary Educational Interpreter) authorization
Demonstrated interpreting skills at the 3.5 level or higher on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA)
Demonstrated knowledge/competencies necessary for being an interpreter in a public school environment
Demonstrated skill and ability to interpret voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice in addition to oral interpreting
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of deaf culture, including rules of etiquette and humor of deaf individuals
Demonstrated awareness of the Code of Ethics for Interpreters of the Deaf
Demonstrated awareness of the importance of confidentiality
