Job Description

Capital City seeks a creative and motivated Kindergarten Teaching Assistant for the 2017-2018 school year. The position involves working with an experienced teacher and 23 students. Teaching Assistant duties include: planning and implementing lessons and expedition projects with a lead teacher, working with small groups and individual students in all subject areas, accompanying students on fieldwork, attending weekly professional development sessions, supporting the school’s social and academic curriculum, participating in weekly child study and supporting our inclusion program, communicating with parents, and sharing your talents with children and staff. Teaching Assistants engage in a yearlong seminar on active pedagogy along with the possibility of participating in a teacher certification program.

This is a 10-month position, which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree, experience working with elementary students, passion for education, experience working with children in diverse settings, and strong collaboration skills are required.

About Our School: Capital City was founded in 2000 and now serves 983 students in grades PK-12. In 2012, the entire school relocated to a newly renovated single campus in Ward 4. Capital City has been a model for school reform in the District. The school implements the EL Education model (www.elschools.org).
