Job Description

Pearson is continually seeking qualified New York State World Language teachers to score constructed responses for the New York State Teacher Certification Examination's Content Specialty Tests and Bilingual Education Assessments, including the redeveloped examinations.


Working as a scorer is an excellent opportunity to:

  • work with peers from across New York State to support the teaching profession
  • stay up-to-date with current practices to expand content knowledge.


    Individuals are eligible to become a scorer if they have the following qualifications:
  • have a permanent or professional New York State teaching or school administrator certificate and are currently teaching or serving as an administrator in a New York State schools (public or private) OR
  • have a permanent or professional New York State teaching or school administrator certificate and have taught or held an administrative position in a New York State schools (public or private) with in the last three years (including regular substitute) OR
  • are or have been educators at colleges/universities and have taught or advised in a content-relevant field within the last three years.

    Invitation process: Approximately 5-6 weeks prior to each scoring session, selected scoring participants are contacted via email to participate in a specific scoring session. Information regarding field(s) to be scored, specific date(s) and times are provided in the email. Currently teaching educators may request a letter from NYSED requesting participation to share with their supervisor.

    Scoring participants will:
  • receive a full orientation to the scoring tasks ensuring they are calibrated to the scoring scale
  • receive an hourly wage or school district substitute reimbursement (for public school teachers).
  • receive travel reimbursement and hotel accommodations if required to travel a distance greater than 40 miles (one way) to the scoring facility.
