Job Title: Upper School Spanish Teacher- Long Term Substitute

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Responsible to: Chair of Modern and Classical Languages Department and Head of Upper School

Position Summary: The Haverford School is seeking a long-term substitute Spanish teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. The position will begin in mid-March and continue for the balance of the 17-18 school year. Preferred candidates will have an academic background in the discipline, as well as a record of demonstrated success working with young people in education or a related field. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic professional who is able to engage students positively. The teacher will teach four classes and be expected to be at school for the entire class day, which runs from 8:00-3:15.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Teach four sections of Spanish, one Spanish I and three Spanish III:
• Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
• Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
• Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, and papers.
• Maintain regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students

    • Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

      • Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish or related field
      • Fluency in Spanish
      • Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing, with colleagues and parents
      • Enthusiastic interest in teaching, motivating, coaching and mentoring high school students
      • A role model for students
      • Ability to comply with the requirements of a standard work week

      Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
      • Works in an environment with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
      • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
      • Be able to occasionally lift up to 15 lbs.
      • Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled office environment
      • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
    • Bachelor degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
