Grade Level Assistant
Job Purpose To assist the teacher in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole. This job reports to the Teacher and Principal.
QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor’s Degree • Valid Missouri State Teaching Certificate
Essential Functions • Works with individual students or small groups of students under the direct supervision of the teacher to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher. • Assists the teacher by reinforcing skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities. • Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher. • Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher. • Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, play periods, assemblies, and field trips. • Assists with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, storytelling. • Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with students. • Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make-up work, as assigned by the teacher. • Assists with classroom routines such as checking attendance, duplicating materials, collecting money, washing up and helping students with clothing. • Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student. • Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher. • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers. • Participates in in-service training programs, as assigned.
EVALUATION Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the building principal.

Center Elementary School is located on the corner of 85th Street and Euclid. Thanks to supportive Center patrons, Center recently finished a facility upgrade. The building is air conditioned and fully accessible to people with disabilities. The wide hallways are always decorated with student work.
The administrator and staff members at Center Elementary received a Pearl Award from the Practical Parenting Partner-ship for providing opportunities to parents. This was the third year in a row, two of those years receiving a first place.
Lift-Off, the Sodexo School Stars Champion, has visited Center Elementary students over the last couple weeks to promote healthy eating and lifestyles.
