ESL Interpreter/Translator was established for the purpose(s) of enhancing success of non or limited
English speaking parents; enlisting parental involvement, at the school level, in educational programs and
activities; providing assistance to schools with the translations of written materials and interpretations of
verbal exchanges; and facilitating positive parent relationships.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to accurately translate written materials and interpret verbal exchanges
Competent in communicating effectively in both English and Spanish (or language other than
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with district-level administrators, community leaders, agency representatives, media, and others
Ability to develop and compile a variety of records, reports and presentations using a variety of
Ability to work in a classroom setting; establish and maintain working relationships with staff, support personnel, counselors, principals, parents, medical personnel and students.
Understanding of the English language.
Ability to perform duties with a professional and cooperative work ethic.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
To be able to successfully interpret a language other than English.
Associates Degree preferred
