POSITION: School Secretary/Administrative Assistant
Shrewsbury Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a School Secretary/Administrative Assistant for Floral Street Elementary School.
The school secretary provides students, staff and parents with the “face” of the school’s culture, and is responsible for answering phones, greeting visitors, processing incoming and outgoing mail/email, and providing a variety of administrative assistant support activities to the Principal. This position has very frequent contact with parents, students, and staff.
Some other typical responsibilities include:
• Drafting communications
• Budget maintenance/supplies ordering
• Coordinating with Parent Teacher Organization including scheduling and meeting set up and fundraising efforts
• Manage social media including school Facebook page
• Keeping student records
• Student attendance
• Supporting the coordination of field trips
• Helping students provide morning announcements each day
• Arranging coverage of classrooms at various times during the day
This is an extremely fast-paced position, which requires excellent interpersonal, spelling, grammar and computer proficiency skills. Attention to detail and a respectful demeanor in all situations are essential to success in the position.

• Comfort with software, including PowerSchool and Excel
• Strong organizational skills
• Problem solving
• Good judgment
Typically, this position works the 180 school days each school year and 18 additional days which are scheduled with the school principal, based on the needs of the school. There are 11 paid holidays with this position, as well as sick and personal time, and a full benefits package.
The hourly rate for this position will range from $20.41-$24.91 per hour, based on experience.
