This is an Interim position until the end of the school year.
Job Title: Math Department Head FLSA Status:
(Exempt/Non-exempt) Unit B; Exempt
Reports to: Principal
general description (1-3 lines describing role):
The Math Department Head provides instructional leadership for the math department. The Department Head also evaluates teachers and provides professional development for department instructors.
Bachelor’s Degree or higher;
Appropriate DESE certification;
Minimum of 5 years of experience teaching mathematics;
Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues;
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Strong leadership skills;
Ability to use technology effectively.
Certification in educational leadership (i.e. supervisor/director or principal);
Ability to conduct demonstration lessons and coach teachers in the content area;
Knowledge of assessment practices, including use of assessment to inform instruction and evaluate programs;
Ability to use technology to support instructional strategies;
Ability to plan and conduct professional development.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (not limited to):
Provide curriculum and instructional leadership in the area of Math;
Assure alignment and consistency in the delivery of Math within and across grade levels;
Serve as contributing evaluator for High School Math teachers;
Prepare and deliver and/or arrange professional development for staff for the Math department;
Communicate effectively with teachers, principals, and central staff
Monitor curriculum development;
Evaluate and provide professional development for department teachers;
Other duties as needed
Work Environment & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed in both office and school environments
Ability to operate computer, printer, telephone, copier, facsimile machine and other standard office equipment
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds
Sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building
