Job Description

Peace Valley Charter School is a new public charter school that will provide a developmentally driven education. Peace Valley’s methodology is guided by the principle that children learn best when they are engaged in a three-fold learning process: intellectually, emotionally, and actively or “Head, Heart, and Hands” method of teaching and learning.

Summary of the Job

The Special Education Coordinator provides direction and support for the instructional program for students with special needs, pertinent information and consultant services to staff members and parents, ongoing student assessment and evaluation, ongoing planning with regular classroom teachers, and promotes and supports the school's RTI process and 504 plans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Manages the school's caseload. Develops IEPs, evaluates students for the purpose of identifying needs, coordinates services with paraprofessionals to students for the purpose of ensuring efficient instructions and an effective cohesive program, teaches/instructs students for the purpose of ensuring successful progress towards students’ goals and objectives, consults/collaborates with staff, parents, and agencies for the purpose of ensuring appropriate delivery of services and adherence to due process.

Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required

- Knowledge of K-8 Common Core curriculum
- Administer a variety of appropriate assessment tools to identify students with special needs
- A familiarity of an arts-integrated instructional program
- Ability to write effective, meaningful student goals and objectives
- Ability to coordinate services with the regular education classroom and program
- Develop and implement modifications and intervention strategies
- Document necessary federal and state due process rights and procedures
- Effective interpersonal communication
- Work with regular teachers in a team effort to plan curriculum and student support
- Appropriate state certification credential appropriate to the position
