TITLE: School Nurse
PAY GRADE: Certified Salary Schedule
SUPERVISOR: Director of Special Programs
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Days as designated per Negotiated Contract. Works on-site according to Director of Special Programs designated schedule. Director of Special Programs will designate or approve all additional days beyond the currently scheduled days needed throughout the school year.
To conduct a health service program for the evaluation, improvement and protection of the health of students and school personnel in accordance with state law and local policies and procedures.
Must possess a valid nursing (RN) license issued by the Idaho State Board of Nursing and a bachelor's degree in nursing, education, or a health-related field from an accredited institution OR
Must possess a valid professional nursing (RN) license issues by the Idaho State Board of Nursing and have completed nine (9) semester credits from a university or college in at least three (3) of the following areas: Health program management; Child and adolescent health issues; Counseling psychology, or social work; or Methods of instruction.
Must be able to obtain an Idaho Pupil Services Staff Certificate endorsed for School Nurse.
Must have two (2) years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) school nursing, community health nursing, or any area of pediatric, adolescent, or family nursing experience. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of school nursing practices and procedures for students aged 3 - 21, federal/state health care laws, regulations (including Medicaid). Knowledge of current school nursing research. Ability to assess levels of student health and well-being, analyze results and prescribe actions to meet student need. Strong understanding and knowledge of current technology. Skill in oral and written communication with students, parents, school staff and administrators. Ability to work effectively with peers, administrators and others. Ability to perform duties in accordance with Board of Education policies and procedures and State laws and guidelines. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 35% sitting, 30% walking, and 35% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment. Risk of exposure to: Blood and bodily fluids; disease, TB (to require mask), latex, hazardous drugs, mechanical/electrical, odors, chemicals.
