Job Description

  1. TITLE: Aide Interpreter for the Hearing Impaired Student.




  1. High School Diploma.
  2. Two years of interpreting experience.
  3. Proficient in signing.
  4. Ability to correctly use English grammar.
  5. Understand the philosophy of “Total Communication”.
  6. Ability to work with staff, students and the public.
  7. Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
  8. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.


  • REPORTS TO: Building Administrator, Special Services Director or Designee.




        To support the delivery of School District 215’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement as tested with the Idaho State Assessment(s) and the District’s Local Assessments.


         To enable hearing impaired students to participate in appropriate regular education classroom and other school activities when their hearing losses are so severe that even with amplification, they cannot hear the spoken word clearly.




  1. Interprets spoken words of teachers, students, principals, secretaries, and other persons involved with the education of the hearing impaired student.
  2. Interprets the hearing impaired student’s signs, gestures, and other utterances to teachers, students, and other persons involved with the education of the hearing impaired student.
  3. Explains the teacher’s instructions when not understood by the student.
  4. Assists student in the expansion of their signing vocabulary and skills.
  5. Maintains student and professional Confidentiality.
  6. Follows the teacher(s) instructional lead in the process of providing aide interpretative services to the student(s).
  7. Follows the workday and schedule as determined and informs appropriate personnel of any departure from the schedule.
  8. Has regular and predictable attendance.




  1. Performs all other duties as assigned.





         The exact terms will be determined by the needs of the school and budgetary constraints. 


This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law.  The “employment at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 215.




         Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator and the Special Services Director or Designee in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
